My stupid mistake

I’ve made a terrible mistake and my could potentially hugely affect our lives. I’m absolutely devastated.

Transferred a card balance for the 0% offer and whilst clearing up my bank account I cancelled the DD because previously I’ve had them take it after it’s been paid off and ended up with a credit balance.

Didn’t think/realise that there would be a balance the following month due to interest. Never gave it another thought and I’ve not got a late payment notification on my credit report. All for the sake of about £20 odd.

We’re planning to remortgage our house next year and have gone without treats, holidays etc to get us into a better position, live within a budget, overpay our mortgage almost 50% every month and it could all be over because of one silly mistake. I feel so so sad about it. Already on my banking app the bank are saying we couldn’t give you a loan whereas before they were saying around £35k. We’ve lived in an absolute hovel for so long waiting for this remortgage.

I called the company who were happy to refund the charges but the people to speak to about the credit report side of things were closed. Does anyone know if there’s any way this can be fixed? I know it doesn’t matter how upset I am etc and it was completely my fault but not sure if there’s anything they can do when it’s obviously a genuine error and stupid me trying to be organised.

There’s just a think on my app that always says we think you could afford x amount over x months.

This is why I would like to see companies banned from selling credit reports. The stress and anguish that is caused by companies selling your data back to you is endless. Talk to the mortgage company, it will probably lying be fine given your history of paying and over paying a mortgage.

You could also try calling the company and asking them to remove it. Explain what happened. It’s worth a try. When I was getting my mortgage the mortgage company would only accept 2 missed or late payments. I had 4! Other than that I had no debt, no missed payments.
It was an error on my gas/electric suppliers part. I had agreed to pay a huge final bill over 4 months and they were all marked as ‘late’. By speaking to both the company and equifax they removed it and it updated in 48 hours and was removed and I got approved for my mortgage.

I’m going to call tomorrow. Called today but told to phone back again because it’s a bank holiday today. I hate being passed from pillar to post with these things.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
