Can someone please help me with some advice on UC it’s so confusing. Iv got no choice but to make a new Claim with UC as I’m starting a part time job next week, iv already had a couple of inductions which I later found out I will get paid for. Their pay date is 28th of every month so this coming 28th I will get paid for them 2 inductions which won’t be much but I’m planning on making the uc claim tomorrow or is it best to wait till after I receive the induction money? Iv head about the assement affecting what uc will pay you if the wages fall in the assessment period time twice, I don’t really know. I would like know when would be best to make the claim if my working wage is going be paid 28th of every month?

I hope you can understand what I’m trying to get at iv explained as much as I can😩 xx

Sorry I don't know if it's best to claim now or after the 28th. Does your CAB have a specialist UC advisor?

I’m not sure I will give them a call in the morning. I just want be sure when I make the claim i do it good timing if possible so it won’t affect any future payments.

I'd claim today, tbh. Starts the assessment period off, which during that time your earned income will be small (two induction days.)
If you claim today, the assessment period will be from 23rd Aug to 22nd Sept. I doubt you will have exceeded your work allowance by working two induction days so might get full UC anyway.

Word of warning, don't claim near payment dates. This is when you can get two pay dates during same assessment period.

Do the uc even though you won’t get paid for two months. They work it out monthly so you’ll get more uc then it will go down when you get your wage.
The only thing is to be careful it is when you apply. It’s really complicated but they work out what you’re entitled to each month by qualifying days depending on the day of the month you apply. For example if you apply on the 5th of the month they take what you earn between 5th of each month til the 4th of the next month.
The only thing to be careful of is your wage date, if it’s the same time each month it’s fine but if for example if some months you have a wage that falls twice in your qualifying period (say you get paid early because it’s a weekend) the system thinks you’ve been paid twice in a month and you won’t get any uc that month.

Pp said it clearer basically don’t apply for it on a day that will be near your wage date. Ask the employer what day of the month they pay you and apply a day in the month that falls about 2 weeks before or after

Are you absolutely sure you need to claim UC? if you already have a child tax credit claim it is possible to add the working tax credit element if you are working the required number of hours.
