UC and working help!

I've recently separated from my ex partner and have started claiming UC. I have the opportunity to work 14 hours a week. I have a 2 year old.

My question is as I'm going to be temporarily living with my parents one whom is long term sick will me working have any impact on their UC, I am aware that it will impact the council tax but it's not clear how much you can earn whilst living with parents and having an under 4.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated before I go mad and live in my car 🙃

You would be treated as separate financially from your parents. As you will be unable to claim rent element of Uc because you are living with your parents you would be able to get the higher work allowance ( the amount you can earn before wages reduce your total Uc amount). The higher work allowance is £503 a month so that is what you could earn without wages affecting the amount of Uc you get. I think council tax is the only thing that would be affected although if one of your parents is on a disability benefit there may be no non dependent deduction on their council tax.

For their UC if they were claiming the housing costs they would have a deduction of £73.89 per month however as you are in responsible for a child under 5 you are exempt.

There is also a list of other exemptions - google ‘non dependant deductions universal credit’ for them.
