Universal Credit - please help me figure out what we can claim

Hi all. My DP is currently facing redundancy (thanks Brexit), and will find out for certain next week. I work part-time earning just over £17000 p/a, but and currently 4.5 months into maternity leave and receiving SMP. We have two children - 3.5yo and baby. We have a mortgage on our house and DP's redundancy pay will be around £6000. We have modest savings on top of that of around £2.5k.

As DP is still currently employed we haven't yet put in a claim for anything, but so that we can plan our finances I'm trying to figure out what benefits we will be eligible for. I think DP can claim JSA and as far as I can make out will be eligible for child tax credits (though now universal credit), however when I attempt to use the online benefit calculators they seem to base it on my part-time annual salary rather than SMP, meaning we can't claim anything other than JSA.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated (my head may explode otherwise).

You should be able to claim.Universal ctedit although savings over 6k will reduce your entitlement slightly. Your husband could claim new atyle (.contributions based ) jsa for 6 months but this would be deducted from UC.

Sorry that should say New style jsa.

The day after he is made redundant apply for UC
He should receive contributions based job seekers allowance for a certain time period. He will receive a letter confirming how long.
The redundancy money is not taken into account for a few weeks
He will need to take identification, redundancy letter, CV to job centre when he receives his appointment

Get the company to provide references, contacts for reference

If you have a mortgage, I believe this will not be paid. More info on www.gov.uk

I was made redundant

Good luck
