Sister having a bill for sex services pop up on her pc for 10 mins at a time

Speaks for itself really. She has not requested any sex services but this pop up request for £40 is coming up on her screen and blocking all access to her pc for 10 mins at a time. She called the company and they kept saying that she had requested the services and she owed them £40 and the pop up wouldn't go until she paid them.

Obviously she hasn't ordered any such services and it sounds like extortion to me but how does she get rid of it?

hunkermunker · 02/08/2007 13:08

What virus software does she have?

CountessDracula · 02/08/2007 13:08

in what way did she say they requested the service and what exactly was it???

LIZS · 02/08/2007 13:10

can she disable popups ?

totaleclipse · 02/08/2007 13:10

Seems a strange wat to recieve a bill dodgy if you ask me.

SpacePuppy · 02/08/2007 13:11

Treat it like you would any bill that comes to you house demanding money. Phone them again, request prove that they delivered services, tell them to provide her with time, dates etc. Then if they persist, she should get some legal counseling and threaten them with a letter from her solicitor. It is harassment in a way and should be reported to someone. I would also ask her to ask anyone in her house that has access to the pc if they made use of these services (maybe a child accidentally clicked ok when they should not have).

dont know if its technically ofcoms (telecoms watchdog) territory but they will prob know who to complain to if its not them

NotQuiteCockney · 02/08/2007 13:12

What sort of online company delivers services and then demands payment? Sounds well dodgy. Can you get us the name of the company, bet we can google something up ...

oliveoil · 02/08/2007 13:14

oh we had something like this on ours

I phoned them and they took it off, no idea how it got on there

the man I phoned said he could see the site hadn't been ordered or used so god knows

what I did was open up another window whilst it was on, then at least you can use the internet

This happened to our computer too. Is it microbills or something similar? It was spyware! They claim not to be a scam but we took it to a computer shop and they confirmed that it was indeed a trojan, that would eventually slow down our computer and stop it from performing properally. We had the shop remove it and install a very good security system. (Cost us £30 but worth it!)

margoandjerry · 02/08/2007 13:54

ooh yes it's spyware - just asked our IT chap too. thanks!

She called the co and they kept calling her my love and saying she had definitely requested it and saying she had to pay! It seems it is a scam - I guess some people just give in and send them £40 but then I wouldn't trust them not to do it again. Lying thieves.

She doesn't know what the services are but it calls itself a sex passport! Husband definitely not doing it.

She thinks it might have been microbills too - thieving liars.
