Hi. Im so confused ive been on so many different
Benefit calculaters and get different results everytime.
Ive recently put in a joint claim for universal credit.
Im on smp £215 per fortnight, partner earns £1300-£1600 per month. Rent is £72.00 per week. 2 kids 8yrs and 8weeks. No childcare. Can anyone help?

It's hard to estimate the amount of Uc you will get because it depends what earnings and smp are paid during your monthly assessment period. if your partners earnings vary each month and you are paid two weekly then your UC amount will vary. It's a top up benefit which will adjust depending what you earn. If your partner earned £1600 in your assessment period and you had two fortnightly paydays then you would get £220 per month UC. If he earned less then it will be more. There may be a month when you have 3 fortnightly pay days fall in the month so that would be less again. This amount assumes you are both over 25, and that your partner gets paid monthly on the same day.

Thanks for replying. We are both over 25. My partner gets paid on the last friday of the month.

Your total amount of Uc in a month is £1318.67. This is made up of the elements that you are entitled to for your situation. Then this amount is reduced by wages. So whatever earnings are reported to HMRC during your monthly assessment period ( dates are different for everyone depending when you apply) apply. You take total wages , then minus £287 then multiply by 0.63. This figure is the deduction for wages. whatever is left is the amount of Uc you get.
So if total wages are £2040, it is £2040- £287x 0.63 = £1104.39 deduction. £1318.67 - £1104.39 = £214.28 UC paid.
If wages vary each month you just use the same calculation to work out what you will get.

Ok thank you. Where did the £1318.67 come from though. I got the first bit of taking 287 away from income then x by 63 then got comfused. Sorry. Its such a confusing system. Seems i would have been better off on tax credits if they hadnt now stopped in my area.

Sorry yes it is confusing. The £1318.67 is the total of all the elements you are entitled to. Couple over 25= £498.89, child 1 is £277, child 2 is £231.67, then £312 for rent ( monthly amount averaged over the year ).

Oh i see. When i just did the calcuation you did with the £2040 i got a different figure.
