Closing my ltd company- who do i notify at hmrc?

Possibly not posting on the right topic but looking for advice please.

I started a ltd company with an ex colleague two years ago which we intended to start working under but our circumstances changed so it's been dormant this whole time.

I now want to close the business as we won't be using it and it's costing us money to keep it running. I know i have forms to submit via companies house, but have been advised to also notify hmrc of our intention to close.

My questions:
Who do i address the letter to?
Does it have to be signed by both directors?
At what point do i notify hmrc- before or after closing through companies house?

Thanks in advance

You write to HMRC where you have been submitting your corporate tax return. When you incorporated the company, you’ll have received a letter from HMRC about filings and a letter each year (even for NIL return). You write to them and you do it before applying to strike off your dormant company. This is because when you’re striking off a dormant company, it can be reopened (“restored”) to deal with any pertinent issues for up to 20 years - outstanding corporation tax is one such potential issue.

If you can’t find the letter or your tax return, this link will help you

Your form DS01 needs to be signed by the majority of the directors. If there are two, best practice to have both sign.
