Mortgage

I applied for a mortgage in my own name and stated me and my son would be the only ones living in the property and mortgage was accepted on the affordability of this.

My ex partners mum has sadly passed and we are hoping to try resolve things. However the affordability calculator of 2 adults and 1 child means I'm not entitled to borrow as much money.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Don't want to lie and say no if we get back together before hand but if we don't i will risk loosing the house I want?

Any help would be great!

Sorry should have stated a mortgage condition is that I must tell them anyone over 17 living there and they must "approve" before my mortgage can continue..

I don't understand the issue. He can't move in until you have bought the house and your mortgage is in place at which point you can do what you like.

snackarella · 18/07/2019 20:33

They can't give you a mortgage and then tell you you can't have another adult live there? It's only dependents they care about surely as they cost you money

candlefloozy · 18/07/2019 20:35

As pp said, you don't know what's going on at the moment so continue with your application and then it's up to you what happens once you've got the mortgage.

stucknoue · 18/07/2019 20:38

Buy the house in your name, wait a month and then he moves in

OS22 · 18/07/2019 20:53

@Casmama I havnt looked at it that way actually!. What they said was the amount I can borrow is based on 1 adult 1 child, I have been on their calculator and for 2 adults and 1 child I can't borrow as much because the cost of daily living will be more :/

@snackarella I believe he will be classed as a dependant if not on the mortgage and living there and his income not considered

@stucknoue this is what I thought.. I don't want to get done for fraud or anything daft like that tho (overly paranoid)
We are currently living together still - plan was until sale went through and he would go back to parents,

Would it be 'ok' for him to register back at parents home as planned me move in and then if we sort things out he is just allowed to move in and is added to council tax?

I feel really stupid saying this because it's all a very silly senerio isn't it 😂😂

A dependant is someone who doesn't have an income and so are dependent on you to support them. Assuming he is earning then he is not dependent on you so there isn't an issue.
You made the application and they will make a decision based on that - its not up to you to work out the affordability criteria should circumstances change.

We’ve just bought our property and I had to declare my adult son was living with us and have him sign documents for the mortgage company. Think it’s to do with them saying they have no interest in the property, I guess if it gets repossessed or something.

AJPTaylor · 18/07/2019 21:22

Honestly you are over thinking.
Buy the house. You could meet someone 30 seconds after moving in

OS22 · 18/07/2019 21:22

@Livelovebehappy I have read this a lot too..just threw me off that it was under special requirements and that if I had originally done the application for the 2 of us I feel it would've been declined and this is why I worry

@AJPTaylor hahah thank you! It's very reassuring, your right.. I just hate the thought of fraud etc it's just my luck something like that would happen to me 😂

So do I just leave things how they are, tell the solicitor it will just be me and my son moving in.. and then if we get back together we do and if we don't we don't!

Absolutely do that.
As it stands, you and your ex-partner are no longer a couple.

What else can you say? Presume there's no 'on and off' relationship box for you to tick?
