Can I change direct debit dates to cover a gap in pay?

Will companies allow you to change direct debit dates to allow for starting a new job with a later pay date?

At the moment I need to pay 2 months' worth of bills from one paypack from my old job which is going to be tight.

Could I theoretically get round this by pushing my direct debit dates back to the end of the month from the start of the month or will companies not allow this?

I get paid on 19 July, but won't then have another full paypack until end September. So I'd like to defer my payments due at start of August until the end of August to allow for this.

Call them up and ask!

Where I work they allow it as long as it's the only time in the tax year you have asked to change dates. More than that and they call it the DD game because people try to play it to get out of paying.

Also be aware that you don't get a totally free choice of when a DD is collected. My work order four dates in the month and you must choose one of them.

I've done this before and most companies will allow though they may add on the extra time so to speak. My mobile provider you can just change it online.

DH's company changed the date he got paid from 25th to 28th. We changed the mortgage no problem. Car payments charged us an extra £3 because we were technically extending the loan. Neither were a people though so I don't see why not

Do you have a credit card or can you arrange an overdraft?

Putting your normal spending on a credit card or using an overdraft and paying everything back when you get paid might also solve your cashflow problem without the admin of messing about with several direct debits.

Cancel the direct debits, pay by standing order that month, then set the dd up again when its all sorted.

You could ring them but they will probably say no. Then if you do cancel the direct debits, they can be arsey.

Just make sure that they all get paid in that month, by standing order or by ringing up to make payment. They are usually nice if you let them know that the dd failed and you are ringing to make payment.
