Can't pay mortgage this month.

Another thread from me this morning. I am in a bit of a pickle. I'm selling up and the sale is going ok, I plan on downsizing so no problem in the long run but I HAVE to avoid getting a bad credit score while the sale goes through.
I just cannot pay my mortgage this month. I'm £300 short and have sold anything of value I have to keep going until the house is sold bar my grandmothers engagement ring.
I need to contact them before the 15th to tell them how I plan to pay this month without it affecting my credit score.
I could pay it on the credit card - It £650.
I could ask for a three month payment break.
I could have a breakdown on the phone and beg them to let me off (not going to happen)
or sell my grandmothers engagement ring but it's worth £5000 and the local diamond buyers will only give me £1000 so I'm reluctant.
Any other options I have not thought of?

Put it on the credit card and ten negotiate a payment holiday.?

madcatladyforever · 12/07/2019 10:42

That's probably what I'll do and hope I'm not not missing a trick. I'm going to give them a ring in a bit.

Investigate how to sell the ring properly now, and then you'll have something to pay the credit card off with when it comes due. It might also come in handy for moving expenses. Good luck.

Do you have a pawnbroker locally so you could pawn the ring, but still get it back when the sale has gone through?

Macca84 · 12/07/2019 11:21

I would not sell the ring. You've got some good options here - credit card would be a no-brainer for me (especially if you get 0%), or the payment break. It's awful having money problems I know, but I absolutely wouldn't jump to selling the ring. Hope future months are better for you Flowers

I could pawn it and buy it back yes. Once I've sold the house and moved everything will be much easier. I'll have enough money to pay off all my outstanding debts and life will be so much easier. It's just selling, they are first time buyers and I have a feeling they are going to be hard work.

I paid this months mortgage on the credit card, we'll see if I have enough to pay it back when I get paid next week or at least some of it.
I spoke to the bank and they said they don't do payment holidays any more. It's probably just as well as they used to charge a firtune for it. Here's hoping the house sells quick.
If next month is a nightmare I'll have to pawn the ring. Ff's, lets hope the house sells quick. Stressful or what.

Ask for a mortgage holiday??

Fridaycantsleepdoh1 · 13/07/2019 07:41

Doh just seen your most recent update... my comment is irrelevant!

delilahbucket · 13/07/2019 07:51

You could try the credit card thing but some providers won't let you use a credit card to pay your mortgage. Can you get an overdraft? They are usually added instantly. When was the payment due? It won't go on your credit file until it is 30 days late.

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/07/2019 11:25

Are you doing all your spending on your credit card? If you buy all your food and fuel and everything else you can on your credit card, that will free up money to keep the mortgage up to date, without having to withdraw cash on the credit card or pay the mortgage on the card, as the banks don't like this.

You can then just make the minimum payments plus £1 (to avoid a minimum payments marker going on your credit file) until your house is sold and then pay off the CC..

madcatladyforever · 14/07/2019 11:31

No, I have enough salary from my 5 jobs (yes 5) to pay for almost everything but I can't pay all of my mortgage.
I just need another 2 months and the house will be sold. I cannot afford to get my credit file blacklisted at this stage which is quite stressful as I need to buy a smaller house in 6 months time when I have passed the initial probation period of my new job.
I'm currently working 6 days a week and travelling 4 hours a day to keep all the balls in the air. I am knackered.

Pay mortgage first, then look at everything else- do you pay council tax monthly? Missing one of them is wont affect credit rating and they’ll let you do a repayment plan. What are your other outgoings?

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/07/2019 11:50

Sorry, I now see my post is unclear. I was suggesting that you should use a credit card to pay for your food and travel/fuel/day to day spending, instead of cash or debit card, as this will free up money to pay your mortgage. Pay off as much as you can off the credit card, but only after you have paid the mortgage. You can then pay the cards off in full when the house is sold, it won't cost much and will keep your credit score intact.

i wouldn't risk not paying the council tax, they might not report to credit reference agencies, but they are a high priority debt and will send the bailiffs round ASAP and that adds loads of stress and charges.
