Can my husband apply for JSA? Confused!

I'm currently working full time, husband has been a stay at home parent, youngest is 2. He has recently began actively looking for a job, but no luck as of yet. Would he be eligible to receive JSA?
I have looked online but I am confused by the different types, and the link to universal credit. We currently receive tax credits and housing benefit but apparently live in Universial credit area.
My husband last worked full time 2.5 years ago.

Any advice much appreciated, thank you!

You could do a benefit check to see if you would be better off on Universal Credit. Most people aren't but some people are. The only type of JSA you can get now is based on your recent NI record so that isn't an option.

He couldn't claim income related JSA because you work. To claim contributions based JSA ( or new style JSA as it is now called) he would have needed to work and have paid NI contributions in the past few years.
