No claims bonus

Hi, sorry not sure if this is the right thread for this. Renewing my car insurance. Does anyone know if I can benefit from no claims bonus if I've been the named driver on my husband's policy? Insurance is for the same car which I've always been the registered keeper of. He used to be the main policy holder and I was named additional driver. I'm now going to be the policy holder. Or do i have to start from zero NCB?

Thanks

If you have never had your own policy the only thing I think you could do is check the t&c of the policy you are named as additional driver on. Some insurance companies allow additional drivers to build up their own no claims allowance

Some may offer you an introductory bonus if you use the same insurers but you don't generally benefit from being a named driver.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm doing a MoneySuperMarket search so will answer assuming I didn't benefit as a named driver.

I've also seen on one insurer's website that if we change cars, then we lose the benefit of the NCB as well. That the NCB can't be used with multiple cars.

Annoying. I'm thinking the premium is going to be insane!

I have never had any insurance whereby I lose my NCD if I move to another - and I change almost every year. Maybe this is something to do with additional driver discounts.

There are things you can do to try to reduce the premium - add your H as an additional driver, play around with the excess etc.

Most will ask if you have been a named driver on another policy and usually give some credit for this if no claim has been made. I think this is reflected in the price rather than in an actual no claim discount percentage.
You can only apply a NCD to one policy so you can change car on that policy without losing it but you cannot apply the same NCD to two insurance policies whoever is named on them.
As above try different things like adding OH and play around with excess. Giving your driving licence number can make a large difference too.

Thanks all! This is really helpful. I'm going to do the above and see what I come up with.

I know direct line used to accept years as a named driver but only on their policies
