Outside London, what were you paid by age 30?

I turn 35 next week and a 30 year old colleague said to me that she’d be ‘disappinted’ if she wasn’t on X amount by next year as that was always her target for 30.

I know all this depends on the industry and so on. I’m only just on 10k more than what she quoted and now and worry that I have been completely deluded as to a decent salary for my age and maybe I should be asking for more.

I turned 30 last year on £54k in Northern Ireland. I earned more each of the previous four years though as my earnings seem to be decreasing, there is less work available and it’s less well paid.

I should add I’ve not done that well from my group of friends back in school. Most ended up in finance and are now very well into six figures, two had retired by thirty. It is possible to earn very well by the age of thirty if you make appropriate choices and have appropriate support early.
