Selling on ebay - my calculations are weird

Hi, not sure if this is the right board to be posting on but I need some help!
I'm selling a lot of items on ebay on behalf of someone else with the understanding that I take 15% of the final amount. That's after paypal and ebay have deducted their amount
So far it looks like I'll make about £300 but then if i take one item for instance, that sold for £625, just that alone is £90 after fees so how come, despite selling loads (some for similar amounts as the example one) do I only make £300?
I'm sure I'm missing something very simple but I can't get my head around it!

Have they mostly been for decent amounts or lots for small amounts where the eBay fees might wipe out most profit? Can you do a list of the sales after fees and see where the issue is?

Doubtfuldaphne · 10/06/2019 13:01

I might have to do a list. There were so many items, I’ve paid about 300 in fees so far and some went for a few pounds but most went for 100 or more

To make £300 you must have sold about 2k worth on eBay, after the fees etc so maybe something like £2300, does that sound like it could be right or far too low?

SchooledUp · 10/06/2019 19:51

I meant £2300 before fees, ish

You should never pay more than £1 in total fees. They have £1 listing weekend at least once a month- usually with sat/sun or sun/monday. That means if it sells within the period (and make sure you end so they don't relist) the maximum eBay fee including the postage cut is £1

Ebay also top slice the postage unless on a £1 listing day and so do PayPal.

Yes, without offers ebay charge 10% of total sale PLUS postage. Paypal is 3.4% of total PLUS 20 pence. I always allow 15% fees as a ball park.

It does sound about right then.
So much work for £300ish pounds!
I have so much to sell, I can’t just wait for the £1 listing days/weekends. I do try to make the most of them when possible though.
Thank you everyone

Have you tried selling on other sites? I’ve just put some baby clothes on market of mums who charge 6% they don’t seem to have a massive following like eBay so waiting to see if they sell.
