Eligibility for housing benefit on part-buy part-rent scheme

My daughter is having to sell her house as a result of a divorce. She has three children aged 7 and under and has been a full-time mum since her first pregnancy. She has been told that if she puts her share of the proceeds of the house sale into buying a share of a part-buy, part-rent home, that she will qualify for housing benefit as she has no other means of income. The argument was that the rent in such a property would be less than the rent charged by a private landlord. Does anyone have any advice or experience of this?

She can't make a new claim for Housing benefit any more . It would be Universal credit. I think there is a 6 month time frame where you can do this. If she has remaining equity over 16k she would not be able to claim Universal credit though.

Yes, she can put her share of the proceeds into a part buy part rent (shared ownership) property and claim the housing costs element of Universal Credit to pay for the 'part rent' bit. That is, assuming she puts most of the proceeds from the previous house into the new one and isn't left with more than £16k in savings.

Hello. I am not sure of the correct answer in her personal case but I can tell you my experience ?

I am a single mum, in part buy part rent - Although I do work part time. I do not get any help towards the rent side
