Dc has switched gas suppliers to octopus and the gas/electricity bill has now come through as this! Surely this isn’t correct?

Are the meter readings correct?

Yes, check your meter readings. Bulb have me down as owing £1004 for gas as the reading's wrong. It's an easy mistake to make but a bloody headache to put right, even after sending photographs of the actual meter.

On the bill, what period does it cover, is there a brought-forward balance from the previous supplier, and are the meter readings actual or estimated?

And on the previous bill from the old supplier - were the meter readings estimates or actual?

How many months is this for?

Is the £1000 for gas only or gas and electricity?

What sort of property is it for and how long per day is it occupied/heated/what's the efficiency like and do they use a dryer a lot?

The average annual bill for gas and electric is around £1200, so if the £1000 includes a cold weather period and they're 'above average' in any aspect of usage, it might be in the right ballpark.

Obviously also need to check that the meter readings are correct and that there's no arrears added in.
