Becoming a student and universal credit/tax credits

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice as googling / gov.uk doesn't seem to give an answer.

I currently work 30 hours and claim working and child tax credits, single parent.

I want to go back to college in september.

Would becoming a student trigger a move to UC. Its a level 3 course so no maintenance loan.

I can see info for stopping working but not stopping working to become a student.

Wouldn't need to claim Housing benefit as ex pays it in lieu of maintenance.

You can’t claim HB unless your pension age or supported living. Not sure about claiming UC as you have to commit to looking for work to receive UC

No it won’t trigger a move to UC , as you would not previously have been attempting to claim a legacy benefit.
All that will happen is your wtc will stop.

You wouldn't receive anything towards working tax credits under U/C.

Have you been on the student finance site? They state what you can claim as a student who is a parent

Most info seems to be for uni students with maintenance loans. As its a level 3 course im not entitled to that i don't think.

Like I said you won’t be moved to UC.
