Money tracer / tracker

This is going to sound ridiculous however given my mental state I'm not surprised I'm in this situation.
Basically, I need to track/ trace what happened to some lump sum of money that I inherited after family members death. I have invested some but I don't know where some of it. It's easy to think I've spent it but when you look at the amounts it's hard to think I have spent that much.

Can I hire someone to see where the money went? I have all the paperwork but I need some help looking through paperwork and linking everything.

Is there such service exists?

Thanks

Forensic accountant would do that. Might be very costly though.

If you can't manage this yourself, do you have a competent friend or family member who could help?

What you're asking doesn't sound particularly difficult. If this was something I wanted to know, I would start by looking through all bank and credit card statements since I had received the money, get copies of credit record and look through emails and any paperwork, to identify any relevant accounts or correspondence to make a start to see if I could see any big payments, or obvious 'holes' eg the money has gone by spending more than your income over a period of time.

You can download transactions into excel and manipulate them to make categorising and adding up easier.

Wild, that's the name!!

Barbara, great idea, just feel daunting though. I have close friends but not sure I want to expose my spending trends 😊
You've given me some thoughts to what I could do, thank you.
