Are you better off on universal credit

Sorry another universal credit post but wondering has anyone had a positive experience with universal credit? After tax credit renewal we are now barely keeping our head above water and apparently will be better off on universal credit but wary?

No I wish they were. If you look on the Nest Pension website it states its taken after deductions so my employer only declares the pay after tax and NI but before pension payment.

OK. I've double checked how my salary is declared. It's basically gross, then my tax and national insurance payments. Nothing else. However on my payslip it shows my pension payments as well, so I am actually getting less a month into my bank account than what is declared to the tax office.

I've had multiple conversations with work about this but I'm just told they aren't doing anything wrong. All salary is done externally. It is only a small business. Although its not the most common way of doing things, it is another method of doing things. Nest pensions does actually state this as well.

So I'm really not sure how this would work when I am moved to UC. Unless I submit my payslip every month?

@NGC2017 obviously I’m not sure, as not yet a recipient of UC, but I’ve heard a lot about this online journal you’re provided with for UC, so yes, perhaps there’s a way of submitting your wage slip via this?
So, do you pay tax & NI on your pensionable earnings?

NGC2017 · 15/05/2019 21:19

Yes I do @KcEliMa. I wish they did it the typical way but they offered us a pension that had to do things abit odd

KcEliMa · 15/05/2019 21:25

That sucks! I thought the whole workplace pension rules had changed?! Maybe it being taxed etc doesn’t fall into the rules as long as they provide one. So sorry, I don’t know the answer. But that just sucks that you’re missing out on part of your future investment like that Sad
