Reapplying for dla for my 7 years old

My son is 7 years old diagnosed with adhd and is being referred to the hospital due to incontinence. We where awarded medium rare dla and low rate mobility 12 months ago and it is due for renewal we have received the forms and I have sent them back off . His needs have not changed since last year if anything he is more demanding now .

Has anyone had trouble being awarded for a second year ? Is he likely to be awarded again ?

Thank you

If nothing has changed then it's very likely to be awarded again.

disagree with baby. didn't happen to me but to a lot of parents in the support groups I attend. no change but reduced/removed award. usually sorted with MR or appeal.

Sorry to ask, How comes you’ve had to renew after only a year? My son was diagnosed and awarded DLA last year and his renewal isn’t due for another 5 years? Is it down to the type of medical diagnosis or is this something they spring on you?

the awards are totally random just as many of the DWP decisions. My child has a lifelong chromosome disorder which will not get better. My friend with a child with the same diagnosis got DLA at 3 until 16. I have to reapply every 2 years since having had the first award at 3.

some people are just lucky and get longer awards, some really need to go through the same crap every year. isn't logical and doesn't make sense.

I reapplied for my son who has diagnosed ASD - so I filled on the new claim form - part of which required a doctors details - they will contact them for evidence - I did not need to take him to the Dr or a PIP/DLA assessor. On the third claim he was given an indefinite award of DLA. Good luck with your claim (BTW have you claimed for tax credits - you may be eligible for the disability element ?)

Doesn’t sound logical at all. I’m always in fear they will want to review his diagnosis and rescind our money. We rely heavily on it as I’m sure everyone else does.
I remember being told by the consultant, who advised me to claim for DLA, that you have to ‘jump hoops’ to get it and ‘lay it on thick’. I didn’t need to. I simply told the truth and sent his diagnosis letter as proof.
If you have to send for evidence from dr though, what can they do??? My dr wasn’t any part of my sons diagnosis other than eventually giving in and forwarding a referral to the hospital.

The first time we applied for my son, he got awarded for 5 years.
Then we had a letter through this year (a year before he was due to renew) and he has now been given 10 years.

I’m surprised you were also awarded for only 1 year, I suppose if successfully medicated for ADHD the level of care needed can decrease.
My son also has ADHD along with ASD and other problems and we had no problems with renewal as like you nothing changed - he was 8 at the renewal and was awarded until 16.
