Can somebody explain to me about benefits

I can’t work out what, if anything, I’m entitled to. I’ve just had a baby, and I keep reading about child tax credit but I have no idea what it is. As far as I can tell, child tax credit has been replaced with Universal Credit, but after spending ages filling out the form online, I’ve been told to attend an interview without being told if I’m even entitled to anything?! What am I interviewing for? I’m a bit stuck. I am already receiving child benefit.

Go on entitled to put in your details and it will tell you exactly what you will be entitled to.

HTH.

Everyone has to attend an interview I think.

What are you asking?

How much are you entitled to? That very much depends on your circumstances

Why you have to go for an interview? They check your ID; go over what you are entitled to and what you have to do to claim/to continue your claim

You will have an initial ID interview where they check your passport, birth certificate etc , , any tenancy agreement and childs birth certificate etc. Then you may be asked to attend a work commitments interview. With a baby you will have no work commitments though.

You will get a child element of £231.67, a standard element of £251.77 ( £317.82 if you are over 25) , then a rent element if you rent, this will depend what you pay, whether you have more bedrooms than you need etc. These are all added together to make your total UC. if you have any wages or smp coming in then that will reduce your total amount. Do you have a partner ? if so then it would be a couples element rather than a single element.
