Do you work in a bank?

If you do, do you have access to peoples accounts?

Child Benefit is recorded on bank statements as CHB not CB.

Heratnumber7 · 15/04/2019 15:52

Depending on he job, she could be able to access anyone's account, yes.

Heratnumber7 · 15/04/2019 15:57

Chipperchop is right though. If your friend works in business banking she won't be able to access any personal accounts.

Eggproducer · 15/04/2019 17:25

@Heratnumber7 I worked in business banking and could access personal bank accounts. I can't speak for all banks but the system we used gave access to the whole bank.

I worked in marketing and could call up any account, searching by name or account number. I never succumbed to the temptation to look at bank accounts I didn't need to because it was such a serious offence if you were caught.

If you don't want your mate to lose her job then I would ask her about it rather than go straight to the bank.

HollowTalk · 15/04/2019 17:48

Why don't you change banks and see if she notices? I wouldn't go out with her if she was expecting you to pay.

candlefloozy · 15/04/2019 19:00

@Eggproducer that's a much better idea. Because surely if she thinks I know then she wouldn't risk her job?

OP posts:
candlefloozy · 15/04/2019 19:02

@HollowTalk something I used to pay for because she paid for something else has nearly doubled and she didn't once offer to pay anything towards it even though she used to before and we'd had a discussion about how much it had gone up!

OP posts:
nrpmum · 15/04/2019 19:05

It is gross misconduct and is definitely a stackable offence.

JoyceDivision · 15/04/2019 19:05

Anyone in a bank with access to work in bank accounts can view them, whether they search by account numbers, post codes, names, address info.

However, every action on a system should be able to be monitored, browsing accounts at my place of work is a stackable offence, and to be honest if I were you Iwouldask for it to be looked into, because a real friend wouldn't do that, let alone then change their attitudes about spending etc!

candlefloozy · 15/04/2019 19:49

Thing is if she asked me how much I earned then I'd probably tell her! But it's just the sneakiness of it. That's if she's actually looked. I think I'd feel bad making a complaint or anything like that. I just had a gut feeling and thought If I asked, then one of you would be able to tell me whether she could look or not. I don't think I want her getting the sack.

OP posts:
HollowTalk · 15/04/2019 20:22

Do you actually want to stay friends with her? She sounds sneaky and grasping.

candlefloozy · 15/04/2019 21:07

@HollowTalk yes I do. I think she's just nosy. Doesn't have a lot going on

OP posts:
JoyceDivision · 15/04/2019 21:11

Call her out on it... It's likely she won't be able to remove a log of her being in your account so she'll be sh*tting it

Teanocoffeethanks · 15/04/2019 21:13

Could you request a Subject Access Request? Not sure if it would show who/username accessing your account but I'd have thought it would reveal when its accessed by a member of staff. Its 10 quid i think.

candlefloozy · 16/04/2019 20:35

@Teanocoffeethanks oooh has no idea you could get anything like that. Might be worth a phone call

OP posts:
candlefloozy · 16/04/2019 20:36

@JoyceDivision I think I'm going to mention it next time I see her. Just casually ask about what she does exactly and if she ever looks at anyone's accounts.

OP posts:
JoyceDivision · 17/04/2019 09:32

Good luck, op. If she says she has never looked then you can laugh and say "Fab,because I can't work out why else you've been so weird about paying for things recently! Splitting this bill, aren't we?" Grin

JoyceDivision · 17/04/2019 09:34

Subject access req won't showstaff details of who has been in your account, and it's not something to check as part of an access request as all they are doing is gathering data to send to you.

It would've down A complaint route to raise an issue of inappropriate access by staff.

candlefloozy · 17/04/2019 19:22

@JoyceDivision I am fed up of footing the bill! I'm certainly not loaded!!

OP posts:
Keypot · 17/04/2019 19:28

Years ago we had free access and would nosy at celebs accounts but I'd say around 15 years ago they tightened things up so you had to have a business reason.

I left a couple of years ago so not sure now but at that time it wasn't really monitored but there's an audit trail so that if there's a complaint or other reason to check they can see who has accessed each account's details.

dementedpixie · 17/04/2019 19:57

I remember it tightening up around the time Jill Dando was killed as she banked at the bank I worked at and people were disciplined/ sacked for looking at her accounts

SchrodingersBrexit · 17/04/2019 20:25

When I worked in a high street bank you could see anyone's accounts in the UK. I couldn't see lots of detail on their mortgages but everything else was visible. People in Business Banking in the branch had the same access and could see anything.

Yes it's monitored but in my experience, not particularly effectively. I worked in a bank for 7 years and wasn't ever asked why I had looked at someone's account.

It is a sackable offence though.

candlefloozy · 19/04/2019 08:04

The thing is, I don't want her sacked. I think it was more for my piece of mind that I'm not going a bit daft and knowing there is the chance that she's had a look.

OP posts:
SchrodingersBrexit · 19/04/2019 10:35

@candlefloozy based on my experience I'd certainly say she's had the opportunity. It just depends whether you think she would do that.
