Universal credit commitments meeting

Does anyone know what happens at a universal credit commitments meeting when your child turns 1 years old? I live with my husband and 1 year old son. My husband works mostly 30 hours a week as an assistant manager. I am a stay at home mum and my son turned 1 last December. I will be sending him to nursery when he is 3 years old. What will they ask me at this meeting? How long will the meeting take?

How come you're only managing to work 30 hours a week between the 2 of you?

Perhaps one or both of you could take on a second job then you wouldn't have the stress and hassle of dealing with these UC meetings?

They’ll be asking you what steps you are taking to get back into work, probably do a better off calculation, discuss any training you may need and tell you about help with childcare available. It’s nothing to worry about.

This might help OP (it sounds like they'll put you in group 2 now and next year move you to group 3) :-

colehawlins - I didn't mention anything about low incomes, I asked about low hours.

How come you struggle to understand the difference between the two things?

Oh go and find a bridge to inhabit.

They will be telling you about childcare subsidies and free hours from 2 for low incomes. My friend also was offered courses as she didn't have c's at gcse maths and English (distance learning but free). Preparing to be work ready I think it's called. Once LO reaches 3 you will be expected to be writing your cv and be work ready now the 30 hours childcare has come in.

They wont do anything. If you are the main carer for a child under 3 then you have no work commitments. it would be your husband who would be expected to look for 35 hours work a week although if he is earning over the earnings threshold that they look at ( sorry can't remember exactly what it's called ) then they will most likely leave you both alone. Before Uc came I there was lots of talk about both of a couple needing to work so many hours but in reality people can still work very little ( not saying your husband is ) as they did on tax credits and be topped up by UC.
