Child Tax Credits

Hello, I need some help please. We are entitled to Child Tax Credits. We have claimed before but we had been over paid so had to pay some back. Since then this has really worried me so we had stopped claiming as we didn't want to be in a position again where we would have to pay back if we got overpaid.
Now we have Baby Number Two arriving this year we want to claim what we are entitled to.
This is the confusion, my pay is easy to work on the form as I work standard full time hours each month with no overtime. But.... Hubby is on a zero hour contract but generally works on average 35-40 hours per week, this goes up and down on a weekly / monthly basis, please could you advise how we would work out his annual pay as he doesn't work 'set' hours pw / pm.
Thank you

Look at how much he worked last year and divide by 52 for a weekly wage unless you think he will be earning a lot more this year .

Tax credits aren't open to new claimants unless in some exceptional circumstances, so unless you have an active claim, you need to claim universal credit. You don't need to know annual pay for this, they just decide your benefit entitlement based on your income in the 4 weeks.

As above. Universal credit is fully rolled out now so unfortunately you'll need to do a UC claim

Also any HMRC debt overpayment outstanding is automatically deducted from u.c

You cannot make a new claim for tax credits. Universal credit tops up your income on more of a 'real time' system rather than being worked out over the year so they will receive details of your earnings and Uc will top you up accordingly each month.
