Social Worker appointeeship

Not sure where to post this.

Does anyone have experience of getting a social worker appointed to manage finances of a vulnerable adult, how this process works etc?

Thanks.

Presuming your talking about an appointee for DWP benefit purposes... I've seen "corporate" appointeeships put into place several times but only a few times have I known it to be the Local Authority (rather than a solicitor, care home etc). It should be a fairly straightforward process, provided the LA are agreeable, and you just contact the relevant benefit enquiry line and ask for a referral to DWP Visits and they go from there.

That said, it is done (and fairly often) it's just I deal more with working age benefits so it's more likely to be a family member who is an appointee rather than a corporate one. Sorry - just realised I made it sound "unusual" and it's not really that unusual.

Thanks for this.

Ah that's ok. By corporate you mean the local authority? It's my DB and he is of working age. I have been managing his benefits, debts and bills. Their is a high likelihood of him failing to pay debts (currently on a DMP) and bills without support due to schizophrenia. He would need to agree to a referral for an appointee. I can't find any information online about what is involved to present him with. Would I just call the local authority to find out? I hope it's an easy system. I have been doing it last 12 months but its been getting too much.

Speak to your local council (adult social care) and see if they have a money management dept.

There's a bit of a guide here >

I think it's just Adult Social Care you'd have to speak to, or maybe if your local authority has some kind of support hub / welfare support team they might be worth a try.

And yes - sorry, too used to the bloody jargon. Corporate acting body (CAB) is an organisation and personal acting body (PAB) is a person or similar, it's been a long day
