I own my house, need to cover it and critical care insurance if I become seriously ill.

Had breakdown in Oct 2017.
Can’t seem to get anything.

Have you used a broker or are you just trying to get quotes from insurers directly?

Numptysod · 19/03/2019 19:28

Using comparison sites!

Ok, comparison sites only really work for quotes that will be offered on standard terms. As soon as you input that you've had medical treatment of any sort within the last few years it tends to be a case of "computer says no".

A broker would be able to source quotes for you based on a more detailed health/lifestyle questionnaire and approaching insurers who may view your condition more favourably than others. In other words treat you as an individual rather than a statistic.

PM me if you want any more help.

I'm living abroad now OP and my mortgage life assurance is '100% loaded' because of my bipolar diagnosis. So basically paying double. Do go through a broker - let them do the leg work. Good luck.

WhiskersPete · 19/03/2019 22:03

Just having the word bipolar on my medical history doubled my premium.

Try a broker OP. They will help you but it will be expensive!

Try calling LifeSearch. The broker I spoke to from there was able to get me insurance after all the ones I’d tried online said no. Part of it is in the questions they ask - in the end he found me ago affordable cover with Legal & General as their questions were phrased in such a way that I could honestly say no to some, whereas with others I had too many yes answers.
I definitely recommend LifeSearch- it was so much easier having them do the work for me.

donkey86 · 21/03/2019 11:05

Just read that back and it sounds like an advert! It’s not, I’m just really pleased to finally have cover despite a history including suicidal thoughts and two parents with cancer.

Numptysod · 22/03/2019 19:26

PTSD suicide attempts admitted to psych ward kinda killed me tbh!

I have several diagnosis, including bipolar disorder, and multiple suicide attempts in my medical history. I used a broker, and could only find 1 insurance company that would take me on, and they were far, far too expensive.
:( So I am uninsured.

PlayingForKittens · 23/03/2019 13:34

Mine is with LV.
I found travel insurance the worst after a breakdown and I wasn't even hospitalised!

Numptysod · 23/03/2019 13:55

Stupid thing is no insurance covers suicide at all, why is it more expensive?

OP posts:
imabusybee · 23/03/2019 21:50

Thank you so much for saying you're with LV - I have chronic depression and joint pain and haven't been able to get cover or it's been prohibitively expensive... just got cover for £13/month!! Absolutely amazing

Could be worth looking at The Exeter. They are open to looking at serious or multiple health conditions. For mental health there needs to have been no suicide attempts within the last year and no multiple attempts within the last 5 years.

Numptysod · 25/03/2019 20:46

I can't find somewhere who DO EXETER you have to find a broker

I got healthcare with Exeter
