How much do people have in their pocket to last a week after bills, food , fuel etc is paid for. I'm trying desperately to budget and wondering how much people have for weekly spends ???.... for things like coffee/ treats ?

The best place to start with a budget like this is by looking at what you currently spend, what your income + bills are, and so what you need to reduce your spending by.
What other people spend is surely completely irrelevant.

Not much but I budget monthly for food and petrol, birthdays etc. So actually only take about 30 cash out for the month for random things like toddler group or whatever. I dont really buy coffee and drinks out just take with. If we need the odd top up shop of say milk it comes out of our food money.

DH and I have started doing a monthly budget where we write down all our income (variable due to shiftwork) and all our expenditures including random things like birthdays/school trips/planned days out with the DCs/necessary clothing (as opposed to non-essentials) etc. We also have a monthly budget now for savings which includes all “big things” like Xmas, a family holiday next year, car maintenance etc. Once all the expenses have been taken into account we split whatever is left and it is our “pocket money” to spend as we like on things like socialising with friends (or each other), non essential clothes shopping, coffees out etc. The amount varies vastly from month to month, depending on income and outgoings. Have done this for a few months now and it works very well.

Thanks . Yeah, I've started budgeting and have very little over for the coffees/ kids Ice creams etc but then all the bills/ fuel/ groceries are paid for and allowed for. I'm not complaining ( really), was just curious if peoples budgets were as tight as ours.
At the moment we're trying to save a little and clear debts , so it's tight but I'm hoping It'll work and be worth it .
Thanks again.
