I think im going to sound pretty silly but ive heard two different answers for this so i wonder if anyone has experince and can shed light;

I started MAT leave end of March 2018
6 weeks paid for by company 33 weeks lower stat.
I will return to work in March.
One friend says i wont be taxed on my first few wage slips as ive not 'earned' above the 11k threshold for April 2018 - April 2019.
Is this true? I calculated i earned around 9.5k from my 6 weeks full and 33 weeks stat combined.

How does this work?

If you have the standard tax code you get £11500/12 per month tax free. It’s cumulative. So you won’t pay any tax if your figures are right before April 5th. April 6th is the start of the new tax year, so if you earn more than £987.50 per month after that you’ll be taxed. Allowances reset on april 6th each year.
