Life insurance required - how much detail do I have to give about medical history?

My husband and I are moving house and getting a new mortgage. I am also going to close an old, expensive Life Cove policy (been going for about 20 years and has increased in price massively) and taking a new one via our Financial Advisor. We have a meeting with him on Monday about it.

It has suddenly occurred to me that I will have to disclose past medical history. My concern with that is that back in my late teens/early 20s I contracted 2 (minor) STDs. One of these is contra indicated for cervical cancer (I always go for smears, all so far have been fine).

At the time of taking out my previous Life Cover I had to disclose these to my then FA, and it was mortifyingly embarrassing, and I really don't want to have to go through that again. My husband is aware of them, but I really would rather them not be brought up and discussed.

I am not averse to disclosing those to the Insurance Company, but I would rather avoid having to disclose it to the FA.

I am hoping that in these days of technology, I will be sent a link to an online questionnaire that I can fill in myself, and that the FA will never need to know my medical history.

Does anyone know if this is the case, or if I am going to have to discuss these details with the FA??

Thanks.

Depends on the provider to be honest, the applocation systems will vary so much but I would expect you will have the ability to complete it yourself. IIRC the insurer I used to work for would give you the option of letting the completed application be visible to the IFA once submitted.

You may not even need to disclose them - few medical history questions will be "have you ever?", most will have a time limit e.g. "in the last 5 years" or "in the last 12 months". Just ensure you answer the question truthfully.
