Universal credit

I am so confused by universal credit.

I applied in December to see if we were entitled to anything. I work part time and my husband full time - both in minimum wage jobs.

Told them the truth of course about what we earn - and then how much rent we have to pay.

They awarded us a huge amount for our first month In January- we were shocked and delighted.

This month the period of December - January shows 2 wages paid to my husband (although this is misleading as it covers jan and Feb) So Feb payment is showing as 0 as we earnt to much. Fair enough, but from I can see we aren't actually entitled
To anything!

It says our total
Amount we could be entitled
To is £927.00 per month but for every £1 you earn you lose 65p - well we earn more than that so I'm guessing we aren't entitled to anything? So why did they pay us the full amount in January? I have called but they said that the first months payment is an Estimate but surely that is based on the figures we gave them? I thought it seemed like a lot of support. We earn around £2000 a month between us and our rent is £725 a month.

How many dependents do you have?

£2000 a month is a lot to still revive UC. How many dc do you have?

You might find this table helpful: www.entitledto.co.uk/help/Universal-Credit-Rates. There is a work allowance if you have children so they would knock that off the 2k before deducting money. Still I would be surprised if you are entitled to anything unless you have childcare costs?

It may be that if one or both of you is paid four weekly or weekly or were paid early for Christmas that the wages that have fallen in your assessment period have cancelled out any UC for this month. So you have a total Uc which will be made up of your couples element, rent element and child element(s) if you have kids. Then wages will reduce this total amount by 63p in the pound. If you have kids then the first 3198 is disregarded and if you don't then the 63p in the pound comes straight off.
