Discretionary Trust for special needs adult

Can anyone advise on discretionary trusts for adults with special needs? We are hoping to try and set one up for an adult in our family who has a diagnosis of high functioning Aspergers. She is a very able person but lives with family at present, partime job though employment history is shakey and a long track history of getting easily into debt. Does a beneficiary need to be assessed in order to 'qualify' - any advice really appreciated. Thanks.

I cannot advise you but I can sign you towards Mencap, who have some very detailed and interesting information on this topic.

I was just about to suggest Mencap too!

We have one via the Mencap Trust for our adult dd who has sld and is our only child.

We set this up several years ago and have it linked up with our wills and our solicitor who will be our executor.

The Mencap Trust are excellent, keep in touch regularly and have quite a few roadshows for interested parties each year.
