UC sanctions

Help me please.
My partner has just quit his job, struggles mentally and has never stuck at jobs long. Before on tax credits you could tell them and they would increase for a period. However I have read UC sanction you.
My question is we have a 1 year old and 4 year old, if I continue in my work will they sanction us if we are honest and admit his mental health. I am really worried. I have been offered a new job which would involve a 90mile round trip daily. So to be honest he will be needed home for a while. Any advice on what to say to them?

Surely he needs to go to a doctor for an official diagnosis? You can't just say 'mental health'

Quitting jobs has always been frowned upon, give them proof if he's unwell

He has for years been signed of spell, attempted suicide, been referred to councilling and mental health team. But it's of course I'm concerned for what will happen because of the kids financially

I think whether he is sanctioned will depend on the overall situation and earnings between you. If you earn a certain amount and your kids are young then you coukd just say he has left to be the main carer for the kids and that woukd probably be acceptable to them. If you want to go down the route of trying to get some extra money on your UC because he has limited capability for work then yes you woukd need for him to seek medical help and ge would need to start handing in sick.notes and wait to be assessed. And for this he woukd need medical reports etc to support his claim that he cannot work.

Thank you babyroobs. I will be working 48 hours a week plus 10 hours commute. So he will be the main Carer. I have been told on
Calculator we will get about £760 a month UC with my wage of £211500 a year before tax. I am not expecting disability just can't afford to be sanctioned but this opportunity is once in a life time

Yes he just needs to report himself as the main carer and should not be sanctioned as with a child aged one there is no requirement for you both to be working.
