Pay rise will I be worse off?

I have been offered another role in the company I work for. It will take my pay from 17500 to 20000. I am just worried that I might be either no better off or worse off as my tax credits will likely reduce significantly, I'm a single parent, I currently get around £100 a week.

Has anyone had a similar circumstance? Not sure what to do.

Have you checked a benefits calculator to see what your entitlement will be?

I understand your frustration if you will be worse off, but surely you have no argument if you will walk out with the same money in your hand every week? It’s better to earn your money yourself rather than rely on benefits, no?

I've gone up steadily and at no point have i been worse off.
Call tax credit helpline and give them the figures? They should be able to tell you Smile

I'd have thought it would change. When I used to receive tax credits I used to get a bonus of around two thousand and by the end of the year I always owed them money.

I’m not sure you will
Be worse off. However you need to consider the long term progression and opportunities so even if it is
Not what you expect please consider long term.

Thanks everyone. I've used some of the online calculators and I don't think I'll be worse off, not much better but need to think about the progression at work so I'll just got for it and stop worrying!

You might not be much better off now, but if govt cuts keep continuing, you'll be glad you took the pay rise
