DS and all friends have new phones and are alll texting each other; they’ve been sending each other gif pictures and I have no idea if you get charged for them. Tried googling but can’t find a definitive answer. Does anyone know for certain? With Virgin if that makes a difference.

I know it doesn’t charge with imessage (iPhone to iPhone texting), or WhatsApp. But I’m not sure about android.

Thank you, he’s not sent many so there won’t be a massive bill if so but just wanted to be clear!

Can you not put a cap on his phone? Giving a contract with no spend limits to a child / teen is just a disaster waiting to happen IMO, for reasons just like this!

WhatsApp is free. Connect to wifi

My son was sending them to his friend (he's on iPhone and friend on android) and they were charged as picture messages

I only found out when the last bill came in!

if you sent an end with an image it get converted by your mobile provider to an MMS. if you haven't included them in your plan, each MMS can be between 0.40p to £1.50 (I think it's called at that). Check with your provider. EE is 59p with out a plan. 100 MMS costs a fiver on plan
