Calling Child Tax Credit Experts

I have been receiveing Carers Allowance since last May for my son who is Autistic. I have just done my CTC Review and they didn't have it on file although I do remember calling them about it. I know it is taxable - will I owe them a lot of money? How will it be worked out?

You should be OK for last year because there is a £25k disregard on your income (unless you are assessed on a "current year" basis). You will probably have been overpaid since April so the sooner you ring them the better.

HTH

sparklygothkat · 29/06/2007 12:06

If you only get CTC, you wouldn't have been overpaid. I get CA and although its taxable its below the amount I am aloowed to earn

mummy2aaron · 29/06/2007 13:46

i have no other earnings but do they take dh's into account?

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 29/06/2007 16:45

depends on how much he earns. If its below £15,200 (i think) with your CA you will not have been overpaid. But you may have been overpaid so phone them.

gingergirl · 29/06/2007 17:25

Have a look on this page, if you enter in the relevant information it should be able to tell you what your entitlement is and you can work out if you have been overpaid. HTH

mummy2aaron · 29/06/2007 18:22

thanks gingergirl, i tried with the ca and without and it's roughly £500 difference so i guess this will be taken from this years award. phew. thanks for that. not good news but could have been worse

OMG I havent told them that DH and I get CA????

We have been receiving this since April this year.

I filled out review pack and told them we are on benefit though will that count?

tegan · 30/06/2007 19:57

Because ca is taxable it will affect you're credit reward.

My mum's credit went down this year by £125 a month because they get ca.

mummy2aaron · 01/07/2007 08:45

I dont think it should be taxable tbh, I only get it because I have a disabled child I would rather my child not be disabled and not be claiming it at all.

totally agree with you mummy2aaron.

lou33 · 02/07/2007 09:02

can i use this thread to ask a q please?

i just had my annual review of this to do, and i noticed that they didnt have ds2 down as disabled, which means they have been underpaying me

does anyone know how much the disability premium is?

lou33 · 02/07/2007 09:22

bump

tegan · 02/07/2007 09:39

I don't know about disability things but be careful because they will they ask if you get carers allowance and tax you on that so in a strange twist of fait you could owe them money.

lou33 · 02/07/2007 10:19

i dont get ca, they said i wasnt entitled for some reason

tegan · 02/07/2007 14:25

The only thing you casn do is tell them you're circumstances and see what you get.

But I seriously wouldn't expect to get anything you have lost out on.

lou33 · 02/07/2007 20:30

i just wanted to know what hte disabled allowance was really

tegan · 03/07/2007 08:24

I am sure that depends on circumstances.

My dad gets £125 per week for having cancer while fil gets £80 per week for having arthritis in his back.

lou33 · 03/07/2007 08:44

no this is the additional child tax credit allowance for being disabled, i am talking about

lou33 · 03/07/2007 08:48

i found it

a disabled child element ( £2440) - for each child within the family on disability living allowance (DLA) or who is registered blind;

a severely disabled child element (£980) - for each child within the family on the highest rate care component of DLA.

so does that mean ds2 gets both parts? he gets highest rate dla for care and mobility

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/07/2007 08:50

Yes Lou, both. They may knock a bit off again depending on your income.

lou33 · 03/07/2007 09:03

ok ty

looks like they owe me some money then, that will be good for the holidays
