How to improve a credit score - help!

Hi,

My partner has a CCJ (settled in 2015) and he trying to build up his credit score - he’s recently got a credit card, which he’s been settling each-month and they’ve now offered him an increased credit limit.

We are hoping to get a mortgage in a few years and I wondered what’s the best way to improve his credit rating if at all possible with the CCJ?

Also, what is the likelihood of getting a mortgage with his CCJ still on file? Just to add we are both on good salaries.

Thanks Smile

I'm no expert but a quick google suggests that CCJs stay on your credit file for 6 years so if you can wait till it comes off then I would.
Having and using a credit card helps improve credit rating but I would always set up a direct debit for minimum payment as even late fees can have a detrimental effect.
Well managed credit arrangements probably also help eg mobile phone etc.
You probably can get a mortgage with a CCJ but I imagine you would be more limited in who would give you a mortgage and you may not be able to access the best rates so waiting till it comes off might give you more options
