Universal credit/Tax credits

Hi, was wondering if anybody could help me out!?
My ex partner left the house and the relationship about 3 months ago, he has gone back to his own country. He didn't work while he was here, but we have a joint tax credits claim.
I have a full time job and three children, I didn't inform tax credits about our break up as I thought things may resolve themselves and I didn't want to rock the tax credits boat only for him to be back a week later.
I am going to phone and inform hmrc this week, I am very worried I will be in trouble for not having informed them before now and am also worried that I will have to claim universal credit now instead.
Another issue is our tenancy agreement which is in both our names, will the housing benefit/universal credit be paid if his name is on there? I wouldn't be able to get him off it, as he's not here and probably wouldn't agree to be taken off, as he likes to make things hard

Any advice gratefully received!

You will need to make a new claim so it will be Universal credit. Any change shoukd be reported asap. To claim UC you will need to show the tenancy agreement and they may only pay your half until it is sorted. I think there are ways around it though by declaring an 'untidy tenancy '. You will need advice from CAB or maybe shelter can help.

Inform them ASAP. Is he on any of the bills. Is house private let or housing . Contact them and inform them he has left the country and no longer lives at the address.

Hi, it's a private let...I am also worried about the tenancy agreement being terminated due to him leaving. The bills are all in my name, but we have a joint bank account that I don't think I'll be able to get him off of. What a mess.
