I after 28 years and DH (eight years older) a bit more we are finally in a position where....

We owe £27 on the bricks and mortar mortgage... Grin
Smaller one outstanding to do the kitchen and bathroom...we could pay this back tomorrow and go without a kitchen and bathroom but we can triple pay this so it will be gone in two years.

Giddy kippper.

Congratulations that’s amazing!! You both should be so proud!!

Calvinsmam · 03/01/2019 23:41

Oh well done!

LoveManyTrustfew · 03/01/2019 23:51

Thank you both so much, eighteen years ago we were within £60k of clearing it, inherited £40k .... sooooo close and then DH received the offer you can not refuse....for DH to move South.

He is vair clever, (so they tell me, and his salary increase reflected this, but it did not match the property price in a GU ( Guildford ) postcode...

We have been very happy here, but all the years we were broke all I could think was we were £20k away, eighteen years ago... Grin

Still here we are................. still together after 30 years and as I said bricks and mortar mortgage free.... Grin Grin

Oh well done! All being well DH & I will be in the same situation next year. We can't wait.

Weenurse · 03/01/2019 23:55

Congratulations, it is a wonderful feeling.
We actually paid it off and got the title. Any renovations are planned with savings in the next few years.
🍾🥂enjoy

LoveManyTrustfew · 04/01/2019 00:08

We will be clearing it down on February 14th, but to do do before then will cost us £2,000.

I am willing to sit it out... Grin

It's such a good feeling when you get there! In my mind, I'm jumping up and down for you! Yay!

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 04/01/2019 09:25

@GrandmaSteglitszch - is your username Go Jetters-related, by any chance? I love it!

OP, that's fantastic news - can't wait to be in that position

We have a new kitchen and bathroom pending.

Then we plan on saving for retirement, the pensions are sorted, and there is a lump sum saved through DH's work to supplement it.

So on paper we should be able to save an extra £20k plus once the kitchen and bathroom are paid back, but I have said to DH after years of being broke I reserve the right to just do things.

For eg our lawn is ummmm undulating to say the least, once the kitchen and bathroom are paid off, I can justify getting it dug up and relaid.

The shed is a solid red brick shed but could do with extending, so we will do that, or rather I will sort it, without DH prevaricating.

It is really weird I feel so much lighter today, I never thought I would feel that different.
