Leasehold flats - Does anyone know if there are usually clauses re pets?

Hi,

I did live in a flat once so I should know this - but I don't!

My Grandma is emigrating home from Australia. We've found her a lovely waterside apartment in our local town, but have suddenly had a mass panic as to whether or not her little dog will be banned under the lease agreement.

I do seem to remember from our first home (a flat) that there was a clause banning cats and dogs in our building. That didn't stop most owners having cats though.

Does anyone have a clue about this? We're waiting to find out at present.

The thing is I'm desperate to get her in somewhere before she comes over. We only have 6 weeks 'till she arrives. TBH I don't think she should bring her little dog as I think the flight will be awful for it. But that's another story!

Any legal eagles out there?

It depends entirely on the landlord. I used to live in a leasehold flat where the lease banned pets, but a number of my neighbours had dogs, cats etc, and provided there were no complaints, the landlord didn't care. If the lease does ban pets, have a careful look around to see if other tenants have pets. Also, maybe have a chat with the landlord (not the agent if you are going through an agent) and emphasize that emigrating is going to be really traumatic for your Gran (even if it's not ), and if her little dog can't come too, it's going to be even harder.

Thanks for that info. Will get digging and see what I can find.
