If you had not invested your dc child trust fund voucher after nearly 18 months, can a company just open an account on your behalf,as voucher has an expiry date?
Just wondering if the correspondence i have received is dodgy or not.

Not that I'm aware off, what does it say on the website?

McDreamy · 26/06/2007 22:47

I thought the gov invest it for you if it expires

Tentiebug · 26/06/2007 22:49

What happens if my child's CTF voucher has expired?
If you don't use your child's CTF voucher to open an account of your choice by its expiry date, HMRC will pay it into an account for your child with one of the approved Child Trust Fund providers. By investing the CTF voucher yourself, you decide who it will be invested with.

oh dear
I am so hopeless with figures etc that i have put off doing it and somehow it got pushed to the back and now i have let dd2 down.
I fear that the account they have invested it in will be rubbish.

We put DS1&2 in with Asda as we got £20-25 gift card from them.

lemonaid · 26/06/2007 23:01

Where have they invested it? They have to pick a provider at random, I think.

JoMa · 26/06/2007 23:01

the government will invest it for you so the letter may be from the company they have invested it with. you can switch accounts at any time tho so do your research and move it if you want to

Yes - the bit of the gov that issues these will open an account for your child if you haven't done it

viticella · 26/06/2007 23:38

I have just received a similar letter so yours is probably legit. You can find out by ringing up the Child Trust Fund Helpline, check the reference numbers etc. I spoke to very friendly person at Inland Revenue yesterday who could give me no information but did promise I would be phoned back . At least he did verify the details though.

yes, you can change the provider whenever you want - it's not locked in until they are 18
