Child tax credits letter

hrmc sent me a letter saying that they've just noticed conflicting information. My exH and I have 50/50 custody. He claims child benefit, I claim child tax credits. DD is registered at school and surgery at my previous address (exHs). Will a letter explaining this from both of us be enough? I'm worried about a fine and stop receiving the money

I think that the person claiming the child benefit is the only one able to claim child tax credits as the CB is a gateway benefit. If DD is registered at your exH’s address then he is the resident parent and should be the only one claiming any benefits for her.

It 8s possible to claim tax credits and not CB but it is unusual so would require investigating. Assume you claim tax credits because your OH earns too much for it. They will want to be sure that you meet eligibility for tax credits, both child and working if you claim both.

Well with a salary of no more £6k annually I'm more than certain I can claim both. For some reason that I don't understand the working ones stopped.
