YANB Alternatives

I've been using YNAB for nearly 2 years now and have found it very useful. However it costs £4 a month which I can afford but figure that now I'm into the YNAB way I could track my spending some other way.

I've also got a spreadsheet of income and expenditure so I'm really looking for something similar to YNAB

I haven't found anything similar. I agonised over paying full price for several week when my free year (student) ended but in the end decided it was worth it as it has likely saved me that. Plus DH uses it and I never expected him to keep it up, we both have used it for over a year and I've never found anything that worked for me/us for this long.

No I'm the same.

I've just done a fresh start and have decided to try and work with it better to get the most out of it.

We changed from the Classic (free) YNAB to the online version this year... I really did look around for an alternative but there isn’t anything like it tbh. So like you I’m determined to use it properly - it’s a very powerful tool!

I'm sticking with Classic until it breaks. I've had two trials of the new one, and I'm satisfied I can get all my data into it when I need to with a few hours work. The final straw will be when the mobile apps no longer work, and then I'll switch.

I have looked for an alternative, but I haven't found it. I love ynab, and what it's done for us, and I haven't found better. That's why I am planning to upgrade when forced to.

For me, for now, there are no compelling reasons in the new one to upgrade. The loss of the red arrow (DH has a lot of work expenses), lack of walled months and it being difficult to reconcile to a statement date really bug me.

The chrome extension toolkit for new ynab helps massively to make it usable, and reintroduces basic features like the running balance. Have you looked at the reports? There's an income/expenditure one that might mean you won't have to run a separate spreadsheet.

The other thing I like about YNAB is the support. There are 15-20 minute live tutorial sessions that you can join, active forums, well-organised FAQs and they’ve responded really quickly when I’ve asked a question directly to staff. It goes some way to justifying the cost of subscription.
