You wont be able to claim for the rent element until you have a tenancy agreement.

I should be signing at the weekend so I'll apply next week.

Apply now and scan over your tenancy agreement when you get it next week

I have started 2 part time jobs. Do UC need wage slips or will job offer letters suffice?

The employment contract is important for the initial meeting. This is when they set your claimant commitment. They will decide what if anything you have to do to look for work (which work related requirements group you are in). If you can show that you have 24hpw of work lined up you may not need to search

Info on work related requirements

UC is paid in arrears. Each month they look at your circumstances over the previous assessment period. Therefore they will look at what you actually earn over the period. They will need evidence of wages for that. That is one of the reasons for the delay in first payment.

Citizens advice website has a lot of information. Link to one about the first meeting here

I've applied for UC but was unable to verify my identity even though I did my DBS application online a few weeks ago. Would it be because I am applying for UC to be paid at a different address?

I just hope I can get an appointment at the job centre next week.

The appointment is where you verify your ID so take along your documentation when you go

Thanks ivykaty44,
My tenancy started today but I can't move until I have furniture. My family will help me out with it. It's difficult because the application asks when I moved to my address. I don't want to commit fraud but it might be a couple of weeks before I can move in. Are they sympathetic or will they expect me to move quickly with nothing to sleep on? I only started work on the 3rd December so don't have wages to tode me over yet.

You probably need to move ASAP and start sleeping at the rental as UC aren’t going to pay the rent on a property your not actually living in.

I’d suggest you get a bed and move in whilst you’re sorting the rest of the furniture

Thanks, my appointment with the job centre is on Thursday. I won't have any proof of address to show them. I am trying to get beds asap.

If I go to my first appt with all my documents and explain will they let me defer my moving in date and update them?
