Engagement ring insurance separate to house insurance

I need engagement ring insurance that is separate to house insurance to cover it for a few months, what is the best way to go about finding this? Most of the advice I've found online seems to be for putting it on house insurance, but that isn't an option for me because of our circumstances.

Basically we're getting 'officially' engaged over the Christmas period, but won't be living in the same country until around April - I will be in the UK until then (renting, not a homeowner), and am then emigrating. I will have the engagement ring for a few months in the meantime and want to make sure it is insured, as I am going to be terrified to wear it otherwise. Once I've moved I can presumably cover it under house insurance as everyone advises.

Does anyone have any advice for the best way to go about this?

Google single item/personal item insurance. Or speak to your present insurers about seperate cover. Would normally cover for abroad too.

You can buy jewellery insurance but generally it's only valid overseas for up to 31 days a year - you may need to consult a specialist broker as it's not standard circumstances

Sorry I should have specified that the reason that I want it separate to house insurance is because I don’t have any - my mobile phone is insured through my bank account, as well as trips within Europe, and I buy single trip insurance online for any time I go outside the continent. I don’t have any other insurance really as I’ve nothing else of value (no car, no house etc) so I’ve never dealt with a broker.

It is an unusual set of circumstances we have... The ring was bought in Canada (he received it today, that’s what sparked me thinking about this). He wants to propose officially while we’re together over Christmas, then he’s going back to Canada and I’m staying in the UK until I move to Canada in April. The ring will be with me so I just need to figure out something for those few months.

I remember when I bought my first smartphone I was terrified I’d drop it or someone would mug me - this will be that times a hundredfold!

If you are renting then just look at home contents insurance - it’s likely to be the cheapest option for you.
