JSA TO ESA? Help..

So my partner was on contributionary JSA. He got a part time job where he was suppose to start next Tuesday. However he is suffering with severe depression and aniexty which we are both dealing with. So he will be going to get a fit note from the GP and apply for ESA first thing Monday. So he can attend councilling. He is already still recovering from a knee injury too. And he won't be going to start that new job like he wanted to.

He had his JSA claim closed today so he will have one more payment to come.

Will this change affect our child tax or anything? It's exactly the same amount for ESA as it is for JSA so the income will not be different. He hasn't even started that new job yet either so although they closed his JSA claim because they thought he had work sadly he will not.

I will inform the tax office etc he will now be on ESA.

I just worry that the tax office think he is in work now when he isn't because he closed his JSA claim. Cos he will start an ESA claim on Monday morning.

Any ideas?? Thank you

I don't want them to think he is in work and change our child tax when he isn't we just haven't had chance to put a claim in for ESA till Monday. I'm probably just over thinking it and nothing will change over the weekend. Because he hasn't worked yet so no income is different

You need to inform each department that his JSA has stopped and he is now applying for ESA

Otherwise as you point out they will assume that as the benefit has stopped he’s got a job

Do you claim housing benefit? Tell them ASAP

I will inform the tax office etc he will now be on ESA.

It's not as simple as that. He may not get ESA.

ivykaty44 · 30/11/2018 20:24

But you need to inform all the other benefits that he is no longer receiving JSA and tell them that he has applied for esa

Thanks every one really helped I will call them first thing Monday morning and explain he is no longer recieving JSA but has applied for ESA and I will let them know when his ESA claim starts so they can amend it again.

Most of the uk is now rolled out in UC, Si it'll be UC he claims if it's live in your area.

Tax credits are open Sunday and much easier to get through to

laurenluke2017 · 30/11/2018 21:52

I have seen they are open on a Saturday too so I will phone and make sure they are aware and as soon as his ESA claim starts I'll tell them again thanks again

So I have phoned the tax credits and already got through I was on hold for like 5 mins!! That's a shock. They have amended his income so they are fully aware they said to call back once his ESA claim has come in and they will amend it again. Have to call Housing Benefit on Monday cos they aren't open today. Feel a sigh of relief though because was worried they would change everything presuming he was at work x

I presume this is contributions based ESA he is applying for , otherwise as pp says most area are now Universal credit full service. He will start off on the assessment rate of ESA which will be around £73.10 until he is assessed and put in a group.

Is your housing benefit not done on line for change of circumstances? Many are online

laurenluke2017 · 01/12/2018 14:33

No I have to phone my council x

I just went on my council website it says I can report the change online and apply for an online account so that's what I did x
