Car accident - how does this work?

Can anyone tell me how the insurance works in this scenario please?

Car 1 wants to park and sees a large space. Drives forwards into space. Accidentally foot slips onto accelerator instead of brake.

So car 1 hits car 2 (already parked, nobody in it). Car 2 has been hit so hard that it crunches forwards into car 3 (also already parked, nobody in it).

Car 1 has front damage
Car 2 has front and back damage
Car 3 has back damage

Will car 1’s insurance pay for the whole lot? And should everyone make a separate report to their own insurer?
Thanks!

Everyone should send a report to their insurance companies and they will work out fault and who pays what.

I wont even guess where fault lies as it doesn't always make sense. My db's car was hit by another car on a roundabout (other car at fault), the impact caused his boot to open and a heavy object flew out and damaged a 3rd car. Fault was placed on my db for the 3rd car damage!!

Car 1 is liable.

Why was car one about to block car 2 in?

PoesyCherish · 28/11/2018 11:28

Car 1 is at fault in this situation. @BrokenWing roundabouts are a different kettle of fish and generally they'll try to pass the blame on to the next car. But when a car is totally stationary, parked, hand brake on etc the fault would be with Car 1.

Considering you know the circumstances surrounding Car 1's foot slipping, do we assume you're Car 1?

Car 1 is liable for all 3 vehicles. Car 1 driver needs to give their insurance co the vehicle reg of the 2 other vehicles, and they will handle the repairs either directly, or with the other 2 insurance companies.

Or if the owners of 2 and 3 prefer they can go to their own insurers for repairs, and their insurers will reclaim the costs from insurer of car 1.

Fault was placed on my db for the 3rd car damage!!

I would imagine that because your brother should've secured the heavy item in his boot to prevent that from happening.

Thanks all.
No, I am not car 1. She admitted her foot slipped and said that she was really sorry.

My car was damaged in a car park when car 1 drove at speed into car 2 (stationery but driver in it), car 2 was pushed into car 3 (parked and empty) which then damaged my car (parked empty). Police were called as people in cars 1 & 2 injured. Insurers of Cars 2, 3 and 4 (mine) all claimed from Car 1s insurance as police report showed that car to be 100% at fault.
