Can't believe how stupid I was - guy pretending to be from tax office called me, and asked for my National Insurance number - which I gave - he already has my name and address, possibly date of birth - not sure on this - how vulnerable am I - what can he do with this information - is there anything I can do to mitigate any possible identity fraud/financial loss?

Go to Action Fraud website. There is lots of useful advice there.

One simple tip to greatly reduce the chances of getting scammed.

If anyone calls you and you are in any way doubtful or if they ask for any personal info, say you're busy and ask for their name and number and you'll call them back.

No reputable caller will deny you this. Scammers hang up when you ask this. And if they give you a number you can research the number is actually from the organisation it claims to be.

And when you do call them back, use a different line if possible.
