300 day electricity bill

I have just recieved an electricity bill for £250 for 300 days.... contacted EDF to enquire as to why I hadnt recieved a bill in all this time - apparently they have had a problem with their billing system

I know i probably should have been on top of this but I assumed that since there had been several people out to read the meter that all was well and they were taking the money they needed via dd (same supplier for gas, direct debit for that)

I'm not working now as I had ds 6 weeks ago, and could really do wihout this..they have said i can take as long as i want to pay but that doesnt really help as i dont want to be permantly in arrears to them.

Any ideas as to where i stand?

I think they are being quite reasonable. Why don't you work out a monthly repayment plan over the next 12 moths. It would only be about £20 per month.

Oh, and my electric bill is about 4 times the size of yours, so really you are not doing too badly.

yikes ,is it correct ? Am dreading ours. The person who "read" it in May entered a number so off the wall that the account was suspended. We only discovered this when we rang re Gas reading (also wrong) and enquired as to why we had yet to receive an electricity bill since we'd moved in February. The meter reader is supposed to be coming back next week to check both meters. We also have dd's set up but it took 3 calls to trigger those to go (3 months late) ans we have no idea whether they are sufficient.

well I wouldnt say that sending me a bill for 300 days was reasonable... especially since it was due to a fault with THEIR billing system, but yes I know that the bill isnt actually that much when spread over 10 months its just that they never bothered to send me a bill so its come all at once...

Still ebaying my maternity clothes should cover a fair amount of it

So they didn't even take money via your direct debit?

Surely they are in breach of the agreement you made with them then?

What I thought was reasonable was that they were willing to work out a payment plan. They could have demanded full payment upon receipt (a bit like Grodon Brown does when he screws up people tax credits). You aren't sidputing the amoutn, just annoyed (and rightly so) that have a big bill allof the sudden because they forgot to take the DD.

I understand your irritation, but I think that fact that they are willing to work withyou on it is more than a lot of companies would do.
