Hi, please may I ask how much you pay for your sky packages?
We are trying to make some household savings and wondering if we are paying too much for what we get.
TIA

Just TV? Full sky package inc sports. Plus sky go £53 per month

thatisnotanoption · 14/11/2018 20:31

We were paying £44 per month when I cancelled sky. The offers to rejoin are around £13 per month but I don't know if that is for a similar package (we didn't have movies or sport).
We love Netflix and will not go back to sky!

mckenzie · 14/11/2018 20:42

thank you.
do/did either of you have phone and broadband included?

OP posts:
Toomanycats99 · 14/11/2018 20:45

£62 for:

Unlimited fibre broadband
Full standard tv pack with box sets (Sky q)
Second box in bedroom
Line rental
Unlimited daytime and evening calls.

That was a renewal and it took a while to get them to that (even though new deals are way cheaper)

Recommendation would be rung up say you want to cancel tv with 28 days notice but you will leave broadband going until new supplier ports over. Ignore any discounts offered and also ignore any by retentions team they will pass you to. Hold your nerve for as long as you can - I resigned with them the day before 28 days was up!

JoyceTempleSavage · 14/11/2018 20:53

I pay £25 for boxsets package (no films or sport) and £12 for multi room

V pleased with the cost

mckenzie · 14/11/2018 21:02

Oh dear, I’m being fleeced. I need to call them tomorrow.
My package is less than yours Toomanycats yet I’m paying much more!

@mckenzie

It took a few calls to get that. You need to cancel and then just hold out as long as your nerve will hold. Helps to get a comparison from virgin etc even if you have no intention of going with them.

I actually left the inclusive calls off the package and they wrote to me and offered them for £2 a week after I re-signed.

It's like a game. They offer you something and tell it's the best you can get them refer you to someone else. I go through this each year - I wish they would just do it in the first bloody place!

Hermie12 · 14/11/2018 21:33

Agree with toomanycats you have to get as far as cancellations team before you will get a decent offer

mckenzie · 14/11/2018 21:36

Thank you both
I’m going to see what Virgin will offer me. I am so cross with myself that we didn’t do this years ago, we’ve been with Sky for 19 years Blush

If you're paying full price, it's likely you're paying more than you need to.

Standard advice for Sky, or other TV packages is to:

Make sure you're only getting the channels etc that you actually watch.
Call and say you want to cancel because you can't afford it and they nearly always offer a deal
Or cancel and go to the opposition - switching between Sky and Virgin and making use of introductory offers and quidco cashback drastically reduces the cost

If you're still not sure about whether the cost is worth it, what about freeview or freesat (use your old sky box) and Now TV. This gives you nearly everything on Sky for £7.99 a month (plus broadband on top) except movies and sport, but you can get these at an extra cost. You can't record anything, but you can watch it all on catch up.

Advanced level Now TV moneysaving - log into your account and select the cancel option, and then they will offer you a deal. We've had Now TV for years and only ever pay £4 a month or less.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/11/2018 10:37

Funny enough I just left sky tv after being with them for 12years- used to pay £41 for broadband phone and tv (entertainment package- no movies no sport) but they wouldn’t drop down from £47quid after my deal ended. I know it may seem petty over £6 but there are more options now for tv and I know they add a couple of quid for inflation in the new year too. So dropped down to broadband and phone=£18 and signed myself up to hayu for £4.99 a month!

mckenzie · 15/11/2018 12:39

Thank you for the extra posts. I'm feeling a little sick about how much we've been paying Sky for the past goodness knows how long. We've got no one to blame but ourselves.
I'm now going to investigate each and every alternative.
Thank you for your tips and advice

Now TV best switch ever..,

mckenzie · 15/11/2018 13:23

can you get Sky Sports on there Bumblebee?

OP posts:
bumblebee39 · 15/11/2018 18:08

Sky movies
Sky sports
Kids package
Entertainment package

All the same as Sky I believe you just pay for the ones you use and can cancel them if you're not using them

Lazypuppy · 16/11/2018 07:25

Are you not on a 12/18 month deal? ALWAYS swap to new deal, never pay full price for Sky. I always get something for free (e.g. movies or hd etc) then everything else is at least 40% off

skippy67 · 16/11/2018 11:56

I have now tv as well. There are some great offers on at the moment. 50% off Sky movies for 6 months. One off payment of £20. I've also got Sky sports at 40% discount for 3 months. Have set a reminder on my phone to cancel at the end of the discount periods so I don't end up paying full price.

vintagebella · 16/11/2018 18:41

Now TV are currently offering the entertainment package (including boxsets) and cinema at £99 for 12 months. The only downside is you have to pay the £99 upfront but it's worth it I think.

We watch tv through the internet so we pay for a tv licence, a student amazon prime (£39 for the year) and netflix which is still at £5.99 pm (longtime customer). Add in £20pm line rental with unlimited broadband with Sky (12 month deal) and we get a lot of entertainment at a very good price.

These days it doesn't pay to be loyal, you have to look around and find the best deals - from different suppliers if you have to. When my Sky internet deal is over I'll move to whoever has the best deal when I want to change. None of these companies will be loyal to you, it's just how it is these days.
