Building and contents. 3 bed semi, downstairs extension. no unusually high value items, except a ring at £2k. Plus a couple of iPads and a PC.

Renewal is £520 for year (includes 8% charge for monthly)

Just googled and it seems we’re getting royally ripped off!

What is everyone else paying?

OP posts:
Prawnsandwhich · 10/11/2018 12:41

£22 a month for 3 bed detached

Prawnsandwhich · 10/11/2018 12:42

That’s including contents of around £8k

Megan2018 · 10/11/2018 12:43

£23pcm inc accidental damage

2 rings, £2k and £7k
No bikes

Very large 3 bed house, rural

We swap insurer annually though, never renew!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 10/11/2018 13:24

IWantMyHatBack · 10/11/2018 13:35

About £25 a month, good level of cover. Have a look at John Lewis insurance, several people recommended them to me

Celebelly · 10/11/2018 15:33

£123 a year, four-bed detached with Zurich, £1m buildings, 100k contents. OP, yours sounds horrendously expensive!

yoyo1234 · 10/11/2018 17:52

Oh help £780 /year. Average terraced house

yoyo1234 · 10/11/2018 17:53

Will look at Zurich and John Lewis

welshweasel · 10/11/2018 17:54

£500 for buildings and £75000 contents. Large, old, 5 bed house with a bit of flat roof and two outbuildings we wanted cover in. Covers high value items away from home too and includes home emergency cover.

Was the best we could get after trawling all the comparison sites.

Magmatic80 · 10/11/2018 17:58

£104 for year through Aviva for buildings and contents. 3 bed terrace, 2 phones and 1 PC, no other high value tech and no jewellery. Get discount because my pension is through them, and the £104 was just quoted for renewal (last yr £119)

Arnoldthecat · 10/11/2018 19:33

yoyo1234 you do need help !

Lazypuppy · 11/11/2018 13:48

£15 a month. 2 bed terrace. No high items. Insured away from home for contents

lovelyupnorth · 12/11/2018 17:56

£99.00 house and contents (plus i got 30 cash back) so ounly really 70.00 300k house, 3 bed - 100k contents - no one off items

Lemoncurd · 12/11/2018 18:20

£1600 this year, for a 3 bed chalet style bungalow :(
That's what you get for being a few hundred yards away from a river.

Arnoldthecat · 12/11/2018 19:57

It always amazes me that i can insure my whole house, buildings and contents for maybe £120 pa and yet just insuring a car costs much more for most people..

yoyo1234 · 12/11/2018 22:14

And I have never claimed contents...I have only claimed once on buildings 20ish years ago and even then it must have been a small amount. A radiator leaked when I was bleeding it and the insurance paid for a carpet clean and hired a dehumidifier for a few days ( in a small room).

Raerey · 11/09/2020 11:41

Price isnt everything with house insurance, look at service if you have to make a claim!
I went with AA good reputation I thought, Had to claim, had problems so looked on Trustnet the claim handlers they use Trinity
88% negative !!!! some horrendous storys there, check it out before you BUY

S1p1der1 · 11/09/2020 14:12

I shop around & change mine every year. Just over £100 with unlimited contents. No one off items
Had a few deals that included cash back

BarbaraofSeville · 11/09/2020 16:54

You're much less likely to kill or injure other people with your house though.

With a car there's a risk that you cause an accident that leaves someone else permanently disabled and your insurance company will have to pay out close to a million for a lifetime of care and compensation for loss of earnings etc. That's what your car insurance is for, along with fixing up bumps and scrapes.

Our house insurance for a 2 bed semi is £200 pa, no jewellery but includes DPs £3k mountain bike. Unfortunately OP, you have to shop around each year, or else they will quietly bump your premium up year after year.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/09/2020 18:21

I’m in the same property type as you and pay £15 a month for both

You are being screwed !!!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 17/09/2020 08:06

My renewal has just come through...i was with Axa...£145 a year...3 bed semi cottage built 1800....im going to shop around too.
